Description

Company Overview:

At OAS, we're not just growing; we're soaring! As a dynamic management consulting firm, we specialize in powering the aviation industry forward. Our expertise? Crafting tailored strategies that blend cutting-edge technical solutions with deep organizational insights, all aimed at elevating our civilian and military aviation partners.

Job Summary:

The Senior Systems Engineer provides end-to-end systems engineering support for FAA infrastructure and operational systems, including architecture development, interface control, requirements analysis, testing, failover and disaster recovery planning, maintenance support, operational readiness, and system modernization support. This role supports mission-critical FAA capabilities whose success depends on resilient performance, rapid recovery, and disciplined engineering execution.

The position spans configuration management, logistics support, systems test support, engineering support, systems maintenance, help desk support interactions, and information system security coordination. The role requires strong engineering judgment across lifecycle sustainment activities and the ability to produce technical artifacts, trade studies, transition plans, procedures, and recommendations in COR-approved formats.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working in environments that include Linux, Windows, Cisco, FAA data center, and cloud-connected infrastructure and supporting engineering efforts involving virtualization, hybrid containerized architecture, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, CI/CD, RBAC, logging, monitoring, and vulnerability-management-related technical planning where identified by the SOW.

Key Responsibilities:

Systems Engineering, Architecture, and Integration Support

  • Develop and maintain system architecture, design documentation, interface control specifications, and standard engineering packages supporting FAA systems.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, gap analysis, and system trade-off studies that inform Government technical decisions, modernization priorities, and engineering planning.
  • Provide system integration support, including regression, performance, and failover-related testing, to validate that supported systems satisfy operational needs and technical expectations.

High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Modernization Support

  • Design and implement resilient solutions with high availability, fault tolerance, continuity of operations support, and automated failover concepts suited to distributed operational systems.
  • Develop and maintain COOP and disaster recovery strategies and participate in DR exercises, failover validation, and readiness-related technical follow-through.
  • Support recommendations tied to technology modernization, failover automation, air movement data reliability, lifecycle extension, and risk mitigation.
  • Support platform modernization activities involving virtualized infrastructure assessment, hybrid containerized architecture, phased migration roadmaps from virtual machines to containers, security considerations, CI/CD, RBAC, logging, monitoring, and operational tooling recommendations.

Testing, Maintenance, and Operational Support

  • Support test facilities, test beds, models, plans, procedures, schedules, readiness reviews, discrepancy tracking, and technical documentation for functional, integration, regression, performance, and acceptance testing.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance support, troubleshooting, patch management, upgrades, failure analysis, and lifecycle sustainment activities for supported systems and components.
  • Monitor operational logs, alerts, telemetry, and system trends to identify recurring issues, reliability risks, and improvement opportunities before they affect operations.
  • Support OJT materials, technical procedures, manuals, and training/support documentation required for continuity of operations and knowledge transfer.

Configuration, Logistics, and Security Support

  • Support configuration baseline management, change tracking, configuration audits, rollback planning, technical documentation control, and operational procedure maintenance.
  • Assist with logistics support activities including deployment planning, equipment database updates, asset accountability, warranty coordination, and transition planning for system replacement or updates.
  • Support information system security program activities, risk assessments, vulnerability prioritization, remediation support, contingency planning, and security document updates aligned to FAA Order 1370.121B and the SOW information security task.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Science
  • 15 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience directly reflecting systems engineering, NAS-supporting systems, technical operations, integration, lifecycle sustainment, or similarly aligned mission-supporting work products and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting system architecture, interface control, requirements analysis, technical documentation, testing, maintenance, and lifecycle sustainment for operational or mission-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting high availability, continuity of operations, failover planning, recovery validation, and engineering support for distributed technical environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance during the entire period of performance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting FAA, NAS, aviation operations, DoD, DHS, or similarly mission-sensitive federal programs.
  • Experience in Linux, Windows, Cisco, FAA data center, and cloud-connected environments.
  • Experience with virtualization, hybrid containerized architecture planning, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Docker, CI/CD, RBAC, monitoring, logging, and modernization transition planning.
  • Familiarity with NIST, CISA, IEEE, NVD, MITRE CVE List, and CISA KEV Catalog concepts in a federal engineering and security environment.
  • Experience producing engineering studies, transition plans, technical procedures, training/support materials, and leadership-ready technical recommendations for Government review.

Work Requirements: Onsite at Contractor/FAA Facilities

  • Travel: < 10%
