TITLE: Platform Engineer

REPORTS TO: Manager – Platform Engineering

STATUS: Salaried

LOCATION: Remote

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

JOB SUMMARY: The Platform Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining deployment workflows, automation frameworks, and platform tooling to support the business. This role focuses on enabling efficient and scalable software delivery through version control, CI/CD pipelines, compute platforms, and cloud infrastructure.

As a Platform Engineer, you will develop code-driven solutions for request-based and scheduled deployment workflows, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance across environments. You will collaborate with developers, operations, and security teams to optimize delivery pipelines and maintain the stability of our infrastructure.

Also work closely with InfoSec, Infrastructure, DevOps and Development teams to ensure company policies are followed. Upholds and applies exceptional standards of customer service and communication. Receives mentorship and guidance from all levels and departments of IT. Implements CBC Companies’ Core Values of service, integrity, and simplicity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Security and data protection is job zero.
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated deployment workflows for software delivery.
  • Implement, and support CI/CD pipelines to streamline application and infrastructure changes.
  • Manage and optimize version control systems to facilitate efficient development collaboration.
  • Work with compute and container platforms to ensure scalable and resilient deployments.
  • Utilize cloud services to enhance infrastructure automation and optimize cost efficiency.
  • Enhance observability, monitoring, and logging for deployment workflows.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to troubleshoot and improve platform performance.
  • Maintain security best practices across deployment processes and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to contribute to platform initiatives and provide technical support across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with broader team goals.
  • Provide maintenance and support for SaaS services (e.g., ServiceNow, GitHub, Harness) ensuring system health, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in platform engineering, continuously exploring new tools, frameworks, and best practices to enhance platform performance and scalability.
  • Perform Platform Engineering efforts, assignments, and/or projects in a timely manner as directed by Manager.
  • Attend Agile meetings and report status while keeping good documentation on progress within the chosen task tracking system such as JIRA.
  • Write clear and concise Standard Operation Procedures or Team Documentation on the chosen documentation system such as Confluence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ambition to work toward obtaining relevant certifications (Terraform, Harness, AWS, etc.).
  • Experience with version control platforms (e.g., GitHub, Bitbucket).
  • Knowledge of compute platforms (e.g., VMware, OpenShift, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS preferred).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Go, Bash, Terraform, Ansible).
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and deployment automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficient in the following computer infrastructure related areas: Unix/Linux Operating systems, Windows Operating Systems, Storage (NAS/SAN) concepts, VMware and Virtualization concepts, and Networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with ServiceNow Integrations Hub.
  • Understanding of application lifecycle management.
  • Skills in writing, modifying, and debugging code.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Courageous about reporting and communicating success as well as short comings.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proven track record of innovation and forward thinking.
  • Extreme sense of ownership.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the responsibilities of the job, the person in this position will be required to frequently communicate information so others will understand. The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time and must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. The person in this position may need to occasionally move about the inside of an office. The person in this position may need to position self to maintain files in a cabinet and place computers under a desk or in a cabinet. This position requires ability to constantly observe typewritten text on a computer screen. The person in this role is required to operate a laptop and use a telephone regularly. The person in this position may be required to travel throughout the USA by automobile or airplane which may require overnight lodging.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the person in this role may be in a stationary position in an office setting and may be exposed to quiet to moderate noise level.
