The Opportunity

Proactive Projects is seeking an experienced Senior Underground Project Lead to oversee the delivery of a significant underground capital project portfolio within a major mining operation.

This leadership role is responsible for the safe, efficient, and successful execution of multiple concurrent underground infrastructure projects that support ongoing mine development and long-term operational growth.

You will provide strategic direction, governance, and leadership across a team of Project Leads, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with operational requirements.

Project Portfolio

The portfolio includes a range of critical underground infrastructure projects, including:

• 
  Underground ventilation infrastructure and major fan installations
• 
  Dewatering systems and associated pumping infrastructure
• 
  Paste reticulation and paste line installation projects
• 
  Underground electrical and mechanical infrastructure upgrades
• 
  Mine services and supporting operational infrastructure
• 
  Brownfield and greenfield underground capital works

Projects will vary in size and complexity and will be delivered within an active underground mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Capital Projects Manager, you will:

• 
  Lead the delivery of a diverse underground capital project portfolio
• 
  Provide leadership and direction to a team of approximately 5–10 Project Leads
• 
  Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with safety, cost, schedule, quality, and operational objectives
• 
  Drive project governance, reporting, risk management, and stakeholder engagement processes
• 
  Support project planning, prioritisation, and resource allocation across the portfolio
• 
  Manage contractor performance and execution strategies
• 
  Build strong relationships with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project stakeholders
• 
  Identify and mitigate delivery risks while driving continuous improvement initiatives
• 
  Provide mentoring and leadership development to project delivery personnel
• 
  Ensure alignment between capital project delivery and underground operational requirements

About You

You are an experienced mining project leader with a strong background delivering underground capital projects within complex operational environments.

You will demonstrate:

• 
  Proven experience leading major underground mining infrastructure projects
• 
  Strong understanding of underground ventilation, dewatering, mechanical, electrical, and mine services infrastructure
• 
  Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and project teams
• 
  Demonstrated leadership of Project Managers, Project Engineers, or Project Leads
• 
  Strong commercial acumen including budget, cost control, forecasting, and contractor management
• 
  Experience operating within structured project governance frameworks
• 
  Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• 
  Ability to influence and lead multidisciplinary teams in high-performance environments

Qualifications

• 
  Degree qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• 
  Current Driver's Licence
• 
  Project Management qualifications highly regarded
