Contract to start ASAP

Duration: 12 weeks with a possible extension.

Job Purpose

You will be a qualified and experienced solicitor, barrister or legal executive.

You will have excellent knowledge and substantial post qualification experience of a broad range of general litigation areas as well as knowledge and experience of public sector policy and procedure.

You will be a confident general litigator with strong file management skills and a track record of meeting targets and successfully representing your clients on a range of general litigation work.

You will have experience of providing advice to the Council's departments/clients on a broad range of general litigation related matters.

You will be able to work at a pace, managing a varied case load and have an excellent working knowledge of the courts, tribunals and the various civil court /tribunal procedure rules.

You will be flexible, adaptable and have the aptitude to take on any new areas of work quickly and competently.

You will be able to quickly get up to speed with new law and policy and apply it effectively when giving advice to clients.

You will also have knowledge of broader local government law and how it impacts the work of the team.

You will understand the political sensitivities of the work and be aware of the impact that your advice could have for both the council and the communities we serve.

You will need to be able to develop good working relationships with people both inside and outside the council and explain legal concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, tailored appropriately to your audience. Ideally you will have the ability and the appetite to undertake your own advocacy in the courts.
