POSITION TITLE: Roadway Designer
FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) DESIGNATION: Nonexempt, Hourly
OBJECTIVE: Produce consistently high quality design on a wide variety of roadway projects, both large- and small-scale, including the design of major and minor arterials, limited-access facilities, bridge replacement approaches, at-grade intersections, interchanges, and rail crossings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Be proficient in preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs including the production of roadway, pavement marking plans, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration and final specifications.
- Assist in the production of engineering drawings and specifications.
- Conduct field observations and data collection activities.
- Assist in preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
- Assist in Development of project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates;
- Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete work accurately and in accordance with good engineering codes and practice;
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members;
- Multi-task and;
- Complete work on time and within budget.

- Think critically and solve problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 0 to 5 years of experience in roadway design and/or related transportation disciplines
- Working towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Experience working with NCDOT preferred
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
- Proficiency in MicroStation, Geopak and Corridor Modelling preferred
- Strong written and oral communications skills are required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Working towards Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
